Tower Fans
Tower fans let you keep cool in style! These sleek, modern fans are as stylish as they are quiet and efficient, making them ideal for use anywhere in the home or office.
Why Choose a Tower Fan?
Space is one of the few things that we all seem to need more of. If you want to keep cool while making the most out of the space you have in your home, you’ll need a tower fan! These sleek, compact fans are ideal for just about any room at home or at work, so it’s no surprise that they’re now our most popular models!
How Tower Fans Work
Tower fans are actually very similar to traditional pedestal fans, but with one key difference – the fan blades are inside, rather than on top of, the unit. They blow out cool air from their front louvres, and most will have a simple oscillation function that makes them rotate back and forth to circulate air around a room. This has a few big benefits, which we’ll explain a bit more about below!
Stylish
Looks aren’t everything, but they definitely help! Tower fans look great in almost any situation because they have a modern, minimalist look. Most are understated by design so you can easily fit them into any décor – a tower fan will look right at home in the bedroom, kitchen, or office.
Space-Saving
As they don’t have a large fan head, tower fans are much more compact by design. This means they’re easier to fit into more cluttered rooms. It also means they’re a little sturdier and better balanced, so it’s harder to knock them over. This is worth remembering if you have excitable young kids and mischievous pets in your home!
On a more practical level, this space-saving design makes tower fans a better fit for most businesses. Smaller offices and shops need to make the most out every inch of floor space, and a tower fan is the most affordable way to keep cool without cluttering up your workplace.
Quiet
There’s no such thing as a silent fan. When air moves, it makes noise – that’s unavoidable. However, tower fans are still a little quieter than most because their fans blades are inside the outer casing. This muffles the sound enough that you can easily tune it out while watching TV or trying to sleep.
Lightweight and Portable
Unless you’re going to have a fan for every room – which, for offices, isn’t always a bad idea – you’ll need one that’s easy to pick up and move around. Tower fans are really lightweight and easy to carry around, so you can use one fan and share it around every room in your home without much hassle.
Features to Look Out For
Not all tower fans are created equal! Many tower fans come with lots of different features that you can take advantage of. Some of these features aren’t essential and are simply nice extras, but others are quite important!
Timers
Timers are most useful if you’re looking for a bedroom fan. They let you program your fan to turn off automatically after a set amount of time. This means you use your fan while you fall asleep but you don’t have to leave it running all night.
Remote Control
A remote control is one of those features you don’t think you need until you actually use it. Once you have, you’ll never go back! Adjust your fan’s settings and control its features without leaving your seat – on those blistering summer days when moving feels like too much, you’ll be really thankful for this feature!
Dimmable Display
Many fans – such as the MYLEK Cyclops – have a digital display. Luckily, the Cyclops also automatically dims this display after a little while so it doesn’t disturb you if you’re trying to sleep. Not all tower fans have this feature, so if you’re a light sleeper this is definitely something you should beck before you buy.
Speed Settings
Even the most basic fans should have a few speed settings. For most people, 2-3 is enough. If you’re a bit more particular about your temperature, though, you may want more.
Oscillation Setting
Oscillation is when a fan rotates back and forth to circulate air around the room. Pretty much every fan should have this setting. For pedestal and wall-mounted fans, the whole unit oscillates, but this isn’t always the case with tower fans. As tower fan blades are internal, they can use their louvres to direct air in an oscillating pattern without rotating. If you’re easily distracted by objects moving in your peripheral vision, this could be something to check.
Fan Modes
Most people are perfectly fine with the way a fan normally runs, but you might not always want a constant stream of cold air. Maybe you’ll get a little too cool, or maybe it’ll disturb you in the night if you’re a light sleeper. If this is the case, look out for a tower fan with a few fan modes. Fan modes make the fan pulse rather than spin at a constant speed, and they’re meant to simulate a natural breeze.
Where to Place Your Tower Fan
As tower fans are so lightweight, it’s easy to move them around exactly where you want them. But where, exactly, should that be?
The answer to this question depends on what you want the fan for. If you just want to keep yourself cool while sitting at your work desk or on the sofa, you can place it right next to you. This will stop warm air from “settling” around your body and will make you feel much cooler. If you want to cool a whole room, though, you’ll need to put your fan near an open door or window to get the best results. This is because fans work best when they complement the existing airflow within a room. You’ll still need to make sure your fan is big and powerful enough – there’s no point picking up a 12” tower fan and expecting it to cool a whole open-plan office on its own – but placement can help you squeeze every drop of cooling power out of your tower fan.
