Staying cool in the summer months can be really difficult. It can seem unbearable at times – especially at night and can cause a lot of us to sleep a lot less and be uncomfortable during the day. With this in mind, here is our easy guide to surviving those warmer months so that you can enjoy the spring and summer without the usual discomfort and annoyance of being too warm!
1. Drink More Water
This may seem obvious but a lot of us still fail to do it! Drinking water (especially cold water) will keep your body hydrated and cool. So, switch tea and coffee for ice-cold water or fresh fruit juice. This is also important as we lose a lot more water when it’s warm out. When our bodies sweat, we often become dehydrated as we start to lack water and keeping your body hydrated will help you to feel more comfortable.
2. Be Prepared
The warmer weather comes around every year and yet, we seem to be prepared! As soon as the weather starts to change make sure to switch out your duvet for a lower tog and your wardrobe for those summer clothes! It’s also a good idea to start preparing your bedroom before you go to sleep to make sure that you can get those important eight hours without being overly hot. To do this, pull the covers back from your mattress and open all of the windows in your bedroom. This will help to cool down both your bed and your bedroom so that when you decide to close your eyes, your surroundings will be as cool as possible!
3. Take a Cold Shower Before Bed
Many people find the summer nights unbearable to sleep in because they’ve had a warm shower before bed and then found it impossible to cool down. Make sure that if you’re showering right before you got to sleep that you take a cold shower to make your body temperature cooler – making it much more comfortable to drift off.
4. Get a Fan!
Nothing will help you beat the summer heat than a fan! They’re perfect for keeping your home cool so that you can relax and do whatever you want, without being overly hot and bothered. For larger rooms (such as your bedroom or living room) we highly recommend that you opt for a tower fan. Not only are they large and tall to be able to blow out a lot of cool air but their oscillating feature will help the cool air to be dispensed evenly so that the whole room can remain at a lower temperature! You can even choose the perfect temperature and speed setting that suits you, so a good-quality fan is sure to be your best friend this spring and summer!
5. Close Your Curtains and Blinds
Although it can be tempting to welcome in that sunshine into your home by opening your curtains and blinds all day, if you want to keep your home cool, it’s best that you close them in the early evening. This will help to keep the sun’s rays from entering your home and making it too warm so that your home can stay a bit cooler. This will also help you to sleep better as your bedroom will feel much cooler.
